Why Respec Your Character In Baldur's Gate 3?

Respeccing your character can seem overwhelming and time consuming. But here’s why you should respec your main character or your companions

Mistakes Happen:

Baldur’s Gate 3 character respec system is perfect when you make a mistake. Maybe you take the wrong feat, such as a 2 handed weapon fighting instead of great weapon fighting. Or you take the wrong attributes. Respecing is a great way to correct this. You can keep the exact same build, but then correct the mistake you made when leveling up. We also have a full Baldur’s Gate 3 feat guide for every class if you need some direction the best feats.

Changing Class:

The Baldur’s 3 Character respec system allows you to fully change the class of either yourself or your companion. Maybe you love a new companion but their class doesn’t fit your party, or its the same class as the one your playing. Well you can respec them to a class of your choice.

On top of this, maybe you want to change class, but still keep their identity, that’s where you can multiclass them. You can turn Astarion from a rogue to a fighter/rogue. Or turn Wyll from a warlock to a warlock/paladin. There is no end to customization and classes available with multiclass. We also have a full Baldur’s Gate 3 Multiclass guide too if you want to see how this works.

How To Respec Your Character In Baldur's Gate 3?

To respec your character in Baldur’s Gate 3 you must first unlock the character “Withers” and add them to your camp. Once he’s been added to your camp he will respec you or your companions at any time for the small cost of 100g.

How To Unlock Withers

Withers can be found early in Act 1 inside the Dank Crypt on the bottom right of the map, near to where the ship crashes. You either drop in from the top, or you can lock pick the door at the bottom with theives tools.

Once you get inside, this building, just head further and further in, until you reach the crypt. At the end of the crypt in a small norther room is a sarcophagus that holds the skeleton Withers. Simple talk to him and answer his dialogue options in any way and he will find his way to the camp.

There is no way to fail the dialogue option with Withers, just progress further into Act and the next time you head to your camp you will find him there.

Charac Respec, Companions and Hirelings.

Not only can you respec your character for the small cost of 100g. You can also respec any of your companions. Simple talk to withers as the companion you want to change he will offer the same thing he offers your main character. This means you can change the class of any of your companions freely.

Withers also offers a “Hireling” service, where you can recruit a character to help you. This is a nice way to get different premade classes into your party to fill any gaps. Useful if you’re playing an evil playthrough and your companions leave. Or if you just don’t want to deal with the same companions anymore and want some fresh faces around camp.

So Should you Respec?

The only downside to the Baldur’s Gate 3 character respec, is the 100g cost, which is very minor once you start selling loot and making gold. And it allows you to make a ton of changes that are otherwise not possible. With how long a Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough can be, its nice to make small as your party changes or as you get new and exciting weapons. So it’s definitely worth respeccing either yourself or your companions at least once during the campaign.
