Best MMORPG 2024

:Lets go over the best MMOs right now in our Best MMORPG 2024 Showcase:
If you’re enjoying an MMORPG regardless of how new or popular it is, that’s awesome and there is a community of people who enjoy smaller or older MMOs, but lets talk about the Best MMORPG in 2024
. The MMO with the biggest player count, the one all the content creators are playing, or the ones with a triple A budget, so let’s get straight to it.

No 1: World Of Warcraft

Estimated active players: 1.13 million

There is no argument that World of Warcraft has held the top spot as the biggest MMO for the last 15 years. So it has to be one of the Best MMORPGs of 2024. We’ve had countless MMORPGs come and go over the years that have been dubbed the “WoW killer”, but World of Warcraft continues to hold strong as one of the biggest and best MMORPGs in 2024.
WoW Best MMORPG Right now
And with its latest expansion “WoW Dragonflight” performing so well, I’m sure we will see WoW holding as one of the biggest MMORPGs of 2024 and into the future. WoW also has their new expansions; The War Within releasing this year, which bring a lot more eyes back to this iconic MMORPG.

No 2: Final Fantasy 14

Estimated Players: 1.48 million
Final Fantasy 14, is an MMORPG that flew under the radar for lots of people for many years. But in 2021, this game went viral. With frustrations in WoW, we saw an exodus of huge creators and players moving over to greener pastures in Eorzea. Making this easily one of the biggest and best MMORPG of 2024.

This happened just before one of the most ambitious and best-rated expansions FF14 has ever had, Endwalker. The final telling of the good and evil story over the last decade.
FFXIV Endwalker
FF14 is now starting its new story, which is set to cover the next 10 years. Content is still coming out regularly, there are big updates to the early story, early game, graphics, and pacing. And overall, the game is future-proofing itself. I still play FF14, every week and absolutely love this game.

Player count and hype have fallen a lot lately as we prepare for the new story, but this is still one of the best and most popular MMORPGS. As a heavily story-based MMORPG, this game will see further highs and lows at each of its major story releases. We will see the first of their new story in the new expansion “FFXIV Dawntrail”, which releases in summer of this year.

This game also has one of the best and most wholesome communities of any MMORPG. The FF14 community is incredibly passionate about their game and incredibly welcoming to new players. With personal and guild housing, community events and so much more, FF14’s social scene is unmatched by other MMO. Making this easily one of the best MMORPG right now.

If you like story-driven RPGs, other final fantasy games, dungeons, raids, and challenging boss battles and one of the best communities out there, I can personally recommend FFXIV

No 3. Old School Runescape

Estimated players: 1 million

This game is an absolute anomaly. If you’re a boomer like me, you’ll remember sneaking onto your school browser to play some Runescape. Begging your parents for a subscription, so you can access the cool servers and do the premium subscriber skills. And the game has been made standalone now, with its old-school looks and playstyle and is still hugely popular. An easily one of the biggest and best MMORPG in 2024.

One of the reasons this game is so strong is how the developers have treated the game, pulling out things people didn’t like in Runescape 3, and continuing to update the old game alongside the new one. Although not everything has gone smoothly in OSRS, it still has a passionate and hugely actively player base.

I think most MMORPG players have probably already played some version of Runescape, be it old-school Runescape, Runescape 3, or Runescape mobile. And not only has it become a legend in the MMORPG genre, but it’s also got its hooks into a lot of players. The game thrives on grinding. There is a meme that getting 92 out of 99 in a skill, is only halfway, and that’s because the grinds in this game are ruthless.

You could start playing this game today and do nothing but chop trees to level your woodcutting and still be doing that a couple of weeks down the line. This game is huge, grindy but rewarding. I love a grinding game, I’ve put far too much time into both OSRS and R3, and if you can get past the graphics, there is a ton of fun to be had here.

If you like grindy games, deep and rewarding skill and profession systems and a good hit of nostalgia, Old school Runescape should tick all those boxes.
No 4. Elder Scrolls Online
Estimated Players: 0.4 million
Elder Scrolls Online is a game that was released to a mixed reception due to its combat and endgame content, but over the years have released multiple expansions and updates and holds a very strong presence in the MMORPG genre.

There are two things that make ESO a divisive MMORPG, the combat and the character builds. The combat is action combat but is unlike the other elder scrolls and unlike other big MMOs so a lot of the players struggle to embrace it. The builds in ESO are totally free, you can be a sword-swinging wizard or a necromancer warrior. This can be exciting and free but takes away from the feel of a class.

The last thing to mention is this game does have a lot of the content from other Elder Scrolls games like Skyrim such as the zones or the guilds, but they are locked behind a cash shop or a subscription.

Overall if you’re an Elder Scrolls fan, this game is 100% worth a try, and if you like freedom and completion content this may be your best MMORPG of 2024.

No 5. Black Desert
Estimated Players: 0.2 million

Black Desert, Formerly Black Desert Online is a sandbox open-world MMORPG with a heavy emphasis on action combat and life skills. I wanted to include this MMORPG on the list because it is exceptionally unique and different to all of the other 4 listed above.

Black Desert replaces the endgame progression of most MMOs with bosses and heaving mob grinds, although not for everyone really fills in a gap in the market for those that can enjoy it. Black Desert also features arguably the single best combat system in any MMORPG.

Expansions in Black Desert normally feature new zones, mobs and quests. The latest expansion Mountain of Eternal Winter released this year and was very well received. Outside of expansions, Pearl Abyss also release a ton of events and new classes regularly. Black Desert has 22 playable classes that also feature an “awakening” at LVL 56 changing how the class plays significantly, so with combat as good as it is, there is an ocean of content to play here.

Many people will be put off by Black Desert due to the complexity, the RNG, the grinding and the cash shop. However, what lies beneath all this is one of the most open worlds and immersive MMOs out there. And if you like action combat, is definitely the best MMORPG right now on the market.

Other MMORPGs:

There are lots of MMORPGs out right now and there is nothing saying if it’s not on this list it isn’t worth playing. But I wanted to cover the top 5 in my opinion that showed active players, constant content and a strong future.

Games such as a SWTOR, Guild Wars 2, Eve Online, and Albion online all have great features and strong communities but just didn’t feel as future-proof as the ones above.

Hope you enjoyed our ranking showcase of the best MMORPG 2024 has to offer, and we’re excited to see what happens for the rest of this year..
