What Class To Play in WoW Dragonflight? (World of Warcraft)

Picking a class is no easy task, so lets talk about what class to play in WoW Dragonflight. This is going to be going over each of the classes, their roles, the specs you can play as and their strengths and weaknesses. Each spec will be colour coded as Tanks, Healers and DPS, so if there is certain role you’re looking for hopefully this helps. So lets gets get into what class to play in Dragonflight.

Paladin

Specs: Holy, Protection, Retribution

Roles: All

Armor Type: Plate

Paladins are holy magic wielding fighters, who can use weapons and shields to fight in melee position while healing their allies. The paladins are deeply seated in the lore as holy knights and lawful protectors.

Holy paladins and protection paladins wield shields and one handed weapons such as maces or swords to protect and heal their party with holy magic and spells. Whereas retribution paladins wield a 2handed weapon and dish out holy justice. Each of the 3 specs can still use parts of the other, so you use some heals in the non healing specs and defensives in the damage spec giving amazing versatility.

Paladins most iconic moves are consecrating the ground, letting out holy wings and charging on their summoned steed into battle. Players looking for a class who can play in every single role, and enjoy shielding and healing their party will have a lot of fun with paladin. What it lacks in damage or mobility it makes up for shields and regenerative abilities.

Warrior

Specs: Protection, ArmsRetribution

Roles: Tank and DPS

Armor Type: Plate

Warriors are the masters of hand to hand melee combat. They can wield almost every weapon in the game and have insane strength.

Their fury spec lets them wield a 2handed weapon in each hand and spin around like a crazed berserker. Arms is a more balanced damage dealing build. Or you take up a shield to protect your party in protection spec.

Players who love melee combat will be at home with warrior, you can charge in at full speed or jump into battle, let our your rage and smash into every mob or player. Warrior has little range and spells, but makes up for it with insane physical strength, plate armour and protective defensives. 

Death Knight

Specs: BloodFrost, Unholy

Roles: Tank and DPS

Armor Type: Plate

Death knights are what happens if a paladin was to pledge themselves to the dark rather than the light. They wield unholy and evil magic to damage their foes, strengthen their attacks and raise swarms of evil creatures to fight for them.

Death knights can use their unholy spec to cast plagues, diseases and summon an army of undead minions to overwhelm their foes. Frost uses the cold and ice to freeze and deliberate their foes, even summoning the legendary dragon Sindragosa. Blood Death Knights raise bones and leech life to sustain their shields. Death knights can use a 2 handed weapon or two 1 handed weapons.

Players looking for an edgy melee damage dealer, with a variety of cool abilities will have a lot of fun with Death knight. Even thought they can’t use shields, they make up for it with strong magic and leaching abilities.

Hunter

Specs: Beast MasterMarksmanship, Survival

Roles: DPS

Armor Type: Mail

Hunters are mostly a ranged pet class. They capture and collect a large range of pets and use those in combination with ranged and melee weapons to overpower their foes. They utilise traps and deliberating abilities to slow and stun their foes while their pets rampages into battle.

Marksmanship hunters give up their pet to fully master their ranged weapon, giving them insane ranged burst damage. On the opposite side Beast Masters give up some ranged abilities to empower and strengthen their pets, even using two pets at once. Or you can forgo the ranged weapon completely and fight in melee range with the nimble survival spec.

If you’re not sure what class to play in WoW Dragonflight, but you’re looking to play an archer, ranger, or collect and train pets, hunter might be for you. They dish out huge damage and can dominate the battlefield with a range of strong pets and traps. All specs are DPS so there is always a different damage build to try if you get bored.

Shaman

WoW Shaman Specs: ElementalEnhancement, Restoration

Roles: Healer or DPS

Armor Type: Mail

Shamans are masters of the elements, mixing a combination of fire, earth wind and water to both strike their enemies and empower their spells and attacks. They also use totems to empower and heal their party or damage their foes.

Elemental shamans fully commit to the elements and switch between the 4 elements in elemental fury, while using totems to strike from range. Enhancement use the elements to empower their weapons and fight in melee range, using totems and spells in between physical attacks. Both these specs duel wield single handed weapons or fists. Whereas restoration fully commits to the water element and uses a range of rain, water and torrents to heal their party, while using a 1 hander and shield.

Shaman is perfect for those who like flashy elemental magic, and want a mixture of both ranged or physical combat. Players who want to use totems to buff and empower their party and use a wide range of elemental magic will find a lot of fun with shamans.

Evoker

WoW Evoker Specs: Devastation, Preservation

Roles: Healer or DPS

Armor Type: Mail

Newly added to WoW Dragonflight the evoker is a dragon based magic class. Using their draconic power to either damage or heal their party. 

Players can either use the power of the green and bronze dragonflight in preservation to heal their party. Restoring life with their green magic or manipulating time with bronze magic the dragons can manipulate players health. Or unleash the power of the red dragonflight in devastation, flying across the battlefield breathing fire. Evokers use a range of staffs and magical staves.

This new class in dragonflight is great if you’re returning and want to try something new, or want to experience the true power of the iconic dragonflight. With amazing mobility such as flying, rescues and soars, the evoker dragons are super fun and challenging to play.

Druid

Specs: Balance, Feral, Restoration, Guardian

Roles: All

Armor Type: Leather

Druids use nature to heal, deal damage or shapeshift into a range of different forms. They are the only class in the game with 4 specs, and can play in any position needed. 

Druids can deal nature and astral damage from range in their balance form, or turn into a cat and swipe and slash at their enemies in feral form. Restoration druids use nature to cast a large range of heal over time and passive healing abilities on their party. And guardians transform into a sturdy bear like form to increase their defences and tank enemies. Given their multiple forms, druids use a wide range of weapons, however spend most of their time in a shapeshifted form.

Players that arn’t sure what class to play in WoW Dragonflight might find something very special about druids. Druids give players the choice of playing in every single position, melee dps, ranged dps, tank or healer. Therefore druid is perfect if you’re indecisive and aren’t sure what to play. druids also have lots of quality of life features such as a travel and flying form, stealth in their cat form and are a true hybrid class.

Rogue

Specs: SubtletyAssassination, Combat

Roles: DPS

Armor Type: Leather

Rogues use stealth, stuns and high burst critical hits to leap from the shadows and destroy their enemies. Rogues are the masters of pvp and single target damage, and with 3 DPS specs they always find a place in any team.

The assassination and subtlety spec are both similar in that they both wield daggers, utilise stealth and high critical damage. The former focuses on poisons, and the later on stealth and stuns. Combat is completely different opting for more of a pirate theme, rolling dice for buffs, wielding 1h swords and melee weapons and shooting a pistol from range.

Rogues having 3 dps specs make them always viable. They have specs that excel in PvP and specs that can compete in high end PvP. They fight in melee with leather armour and rely heavily on mobility and avoidance have a huge skill ceiling, but playing willing to put in the time can perform insanely well with rogue.

Monk

Specs: Windwalker,  Mistweaver, Brewmaster

Roles: All

Armor Type: Leather

Monks can play as any of the three roles using chi to heal, sustain or deal damage. Each monk spec plays very differently and makes for a very fun and chaotic class

Monks use staves, polearms or a multitude of other 1handed weapons. Windwalkers use their chi to deal super fast punches and strikes like a kung fu movie. Mistweaver uses their abilities to channel healing mist, very helpful for covering large groups and dealing AoE healing. And thee tank form brewmaster uses both chi abilities and brews to empower themselves and sustain heavy damage.

The monk aesthetic is a little wacky and not for everyone but with each spec playing so differently, they are a great choice for someone looking for variety.

Demon Hunter

Specs: Havoc, Vengeance

Roles: DPS or Tank

Armor Type: Leather

Demon hunter uses its exclusive warglaives or other weapons to deal huge leeching damage with some of the highest mobility of any other class. Demon Hunters can take the damage deals or tanks but will always use the same melee weapons and be at close range.

Havoc demon hunters use high mobility attacks to deal super fast damage. They can also metamorphosize into a giant demon and shoot lasers out of their eyes. Vengeance again get up close, and turn use their huge demon form and demon spikes to protect themselves. What they lack in defence they make up in being able to leech health from their enemies.

Demon hunters are a super fast play style, where you can dive into fights, use flashy abilities that look really cool and are able to stay alive in lots of difficult situations. This makes them great for players looking for a fast paced reliable damage dealer.

 

 

Priest

WoW Shadow Priest Specs: Shadow, Holy, Discipline

Roles: All

Armor Type: Cloth

Priest is a holy maic caster class that use holy magic to heal or shadow magic to deal damage. Priest is the only class to have 2 healing specs, giving it healing utility in every situation.

Priests uses staffs, staves or spell swords in all 3 specs. The holy spec is a pure healer that uses holy magic to burst heal their part, they also have some of the largest healing power of any healer. Discipline combines damage and healing, allowing you to heal by dealing damage to enemies. Finally the shadow spec turns away from the light and embraces a shadow form letting you deal shadow damage and summon dark entities from beyond.

If you’re not sure what class to play in WoW Dragonflight, but you love healing, priest might be the one for you. With both holy and discipline spec you can be viable healing any content. And although the warlock is the master of the darkness, shadow priests can still be super fun and edgy casters.

Mage

Specs: Frost, Fire, Arcane

Roles: All

Armor Type: Cloth

This is the traditional mage or wizard class. The class wields a staff or a spell swords and sceptre. Mages can control the arcane, fire or frost as their three damage specs. Along

All specs all long range high damage dealers. Frost uses its magic to slow enemies, able to cast freezes and blizzards that keep any melee player or mob at bay. Fire uses longer casted more powerful spells to deal super high damage at the cost of mobility and slows. Arcane on the other is a hybrid mix of the two that has good mobility and decent damage, with channelled arcane magic.

This class is perfect for those looking to be the traditional wizard class. Robes, staffs and casting spells.

Warlock

Specs: Demonology, Destruction, Affliction

Roles: DPS

Armor Type: Cloth

Warlock utilise dark magic to summon demons, curse and weaken their enemies and cast demonic spells. Warlocks can summon a wide range range of demons including a permanent demon pet and cast multiple spells to help their party such as summoning friends, creating health stones and sealing a players souls for instant resurrection if they die.

The three specs are all DPS based, and use either staffs, staves or spell swords. Demonology can summon a wide range of demons including an army of imps a giant fel creator and can empower their summons. Destruction moves away from summoning and focuses us on huge damaging spells, such as launching large green bolds of fel energy. Affliction is also completely different focusing on curses that weaken enemies and cause damage over time, managing these DoT spells on multiple enemies to control the battlefield.

Warlock is incredibly fun as each spec is totally different playstyle. If you’re looking for an edgy demon based class that has tons of utility both to weaken enemies and support friends you’ll never have trouble finding a group as a warlock.
