Cooking beginner guide for Black Desert
This is a cooking beginner guide for Black Desert, we aimed to cover all of the information you need to start your cooking life-skill.
How to set up your cooking workstation
Before you can start thinking about the recipes and the leveling of your cooking skill, you need to first find a place you’d like to cook.
Housing
The biggest decision is actually where you’d like your cooking set up to be, it is helpful to have everything nearby or in one town so you already have everything you need.
If you already have nodes and workers set up in a town, maybe it’s best to start there. Some nodes provide potatoes, wheat, corn, chicken meat, and many more ingredients that you can use for cooking. So when it comes to choosing a place to set up, if you already have all the ingredients in one town, maybe it’s best to start there.
Always remember you can have multiple housing in one town, or across the entire map. Since this is done with contribution points, you can also remove any housing you may have taken by mistake. The cheapest house you can get will cost you 1 contribution point.
Cooking utensil
The Cooking Utensil is the key tool you need when it comes to cooking, this needs to be manually placed inside a house.
There are many different types of Cooking Utensils in Black Desert, some come with additional bonuses like -1 second off cooking, but you can get others that have a lot more durability, so if you are planning on doing a large batch of cooking you may want to look towards the highest durability cooking utensils instead.
Ways to obtain a Cooking Utensil:
- Central Marketplace
- Crafting a Cooking Utensil at a Tool Workshop
- Purchase with Loyalties
How to obtain cooking ingredients
Just like other items in Black Desert, cooking ingredients come in different qualities. The quality of the cooking ingredients can affect the quality of the item you cook.
Black Desert does have a wide range of different cooking ingredients and recipes, it can be quite overwhelming on where to start for beginners.
A good recipe to start off with is Beer, it is a simple recipe that does not require many ingredients, it is great for leveling your cooking level, and it also fuels workers so it is always selling on the Central Market.
Cooking NPCs will have a good handful of different cooking ingredients that you may need. You can find cooking NPCs in any town/city, usually in or around the inns. There is a search function you can use in game that will take you to the closest Cooking NPC.
You can gather and farm your own cooking ingredients too. Going out in the open world, you can find bushes or herbs, find seeds, milk cows, place down farms, and grow your own crops.
Just keep in mind these interactions do require energy.
The central market is where you can find nearly every ingredient in the game, some ingredients like mineral water or sugar can only really be bought from a cooking NPC.
So if you are struggling to find the ingredient you are looking for, try checking the closest cooking NPC nearby.
The best passive way to obtain cooking ingredients in Black Desert is from Nodes and Workers. Towns and cities, like Velia, Hidel, and Calpheon have a good handful of different farms and ingredients.
Main grain ingredients like corn, wheat, and potatoes, can be found around Velia. So if you are looking for the best place to start your nodes and workers, we recommend around there as you can craft beer from the farm ingredients nearby that can keep your workers going!
How to start cooking
Once you have your house and cooking utensil set up, walk up to the cooking utensil and there will be an option to ‘Controls‘. This will then bring up the cooking UI.
In Black Desert, the game does not give you the recipes so to go about this you can experiment with the cooking ingredients you have, but there are a few websites online that provide the recipes. When starting off at the beginner cooking level, you do have a chance to fail recipes while cooking the correct recipe.
Once you have chosen the recipe, follow it full with the correct amounts for 1 batch. Then once you have learned that recipe you can then cooking a bigger batch depending on the number of ingredients you have.
Byproducts
Witch’s Delicacy is the byproduct you have a chance of obtaining from the cooking life skill.
With this byproduct, you can exchange 10 Witch’s Delicacy for the following:
- 500 Beer
- 120 Milk
- 900 Contribution EXP and 30 Cooking EXP
It’s good to keep a hold of all of your witch’s delicacy in one place, on your character that you cook with, or the storage of the town you cook in.
