Dragonflight Gathering Made Simple

Dragonflight has come with a lot of new features and systems in the game, this guide will provide a better understanding of the new Dragonflight Gathering system.

Dragonflight gathering gear and Tools:

A huge new feature that has been added to Dragonflight is the new gathering equipment. There are three slots that can be filled, two being Profession Accessory and the third being the Tool slot.

The Profession Accessory slot can be filled with head and back pieces, these items are visible after you have gathered an item, and these pieces do not fill your main head and back piece slots as they have their own separate slots and can be viewed after equipping inside your gather journals. The tool slot can be filled with tools related to that profession, for example, mining will have a pickaxe while herbalism can equip a shovel or a sickle.

Fishing only has one slot available which is for the fishing rod as it is a Secondary Skill that everyone can learn.

Dragonflight Gathering Stats:

The gear and tools for Dragonflight gathering also have an item level, skill increase, and stats of their very own.

  • Skill – Your skill increases the quality of the items you gather. It is a sum of your base gathering level and bonuses from equipment and specializations.
  • Finesse – Increases your chance of gathering multiple of that item.
  • Deftness – Increases your gathering speed.
  • Perception – Increases your chances of gathering rare reagents.

Elements:

You can now also have a chance to come across an element-empowered resource in the open world. When you come across these resources they may have a different particle effect around them and can even have an interaction or an effect after you have gathered the resource. The elements are Earth, Fire, Air, and Frost. Over the course of the expansion, we may learn more materials that work in a similar way to these elements like Order and Decay.

For example, while out gathering herbs you may find a frost-empowered herb that will leave a frost ground area effect once you have gathered it, stunning you for a few seconds.

These elements can be gathered as ‘Rousing’ and come with a use, once you obtain 10 Rousing elements you can then change them into 1 Awakened. This change is reversible by clicking on the Awakened element to turn it back into 10 Rousing elements. These elements have to be the same type.

For example, you need 10 Rousing Frost to change into 1 Awakened Frost.

The items are tradeable, marketable, and can be useful in crafting.

Gathering Quality:

You can now gather items with different Quality tiers. For Dragonflight gathering, it is a three tier system, for crafting it is a five tier system. While you are gathering out in the open world you have a chance to gather a higher tier item, the chances can increase by your gathering level plus any additional skill.

For example, if your Dragon Isles Mining was at 70 and you had a pickaxe that gave +6 skill, then your skill will be 76 overall.

You can also increase your skill by your specializations trees, while you put points into your tree some may give +1 skill upon reaching it.

Another way in obtaining higher quality items is by refining. (This may be named differently depending on your gatherer) The way refining works is by taking 5 of the same material and turning it into 1 material which is the next quality stage up.

However, with refining, this needs to be learned by a specific specialization tree and will require a grind of knowledge points. You will also first need to learn how to refine materials from stage 1 to stage 2 before learning how to refine stage 2 to stage 3.

Learn more about Specializations here:

Fishing does not have a specialization tree as it is a Secondary Skill that everyone can learn.

Dragonflight Gathering Journal:

Inside your Dragonflight gathering Journal, you can view all of your resources and an unlearned section of resources you have not come across yet. The journal is full of useful information about the materials you have gathered including where the node can be found, any potential buffs that could be applied after gathering from the node, and also gathering details that will change based on your gear and stat level.

The gathering details section will be shown on all of your resources as they can change based on the resource.

Primary Reagent Difficulty shows how much skill is required to gather the resource at the highest Quality.

Then it also provides how many stats you currently have added up, which includes your gathering level in the Dragon isles, your stats from your gear, and any stats you have acquired from your specialization trees.
