There are many systems and secrets in Diablo 4, and in this post, we are going to cover Murmuring Obols and everything you need to know.
What are Murmuring Obols?
Murmuring Obols is a currency in Diablo 4 that can be obtained in the open world and spent at an NPC in towns. This is an extra system that can help gear your characters with RNG, which is also account-bound and shared between all characters. There is also a cap of 500 Obols before you have to spend them.
How to obtain
To obtain Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4, participate in any open-world content. Events that can be found in any zone can be identified as an orange circle on your map.
Big group events like World Bosses and the Gathering Legions also reward players after completing the events.
Spending Murmuring Obols
When it comes to spending Murmuring Obols you want to find the Purveyor of Curiosities NPC. These can be located in a few of the towns in Diablo 4, be aware that they are not in every town.
Hovering over the waypoint to cities will allow you to see what NPCs are in that City. The Purveyor of Curiosities icon looks like a bag with a question mark on it with some money next to it.
Once at the NPC, you will be able to spend your Obols. These can be spent on Gear Pieces or Whispering Keys.
Murmuring Obols Gear Pieces
You will be able to choose which gear piece you would like to obtain with the Murmuring Obols, specific weapons, gloves, boots, rings, amulets, pants, tunics, and caps.
Once you have bought one of these items, it will give you a random quality of that item. For example, if you choose to buy a pair of boots, these can come out at Common, Magic, Rare, or even Legendary levels. So there is a bit of RNG to this.
Whispering Keys
Whispering Keys are the other item you can obtain from the Purveyor of Curiosities. These keys will open the Silent Chests that can be randomly found in the open world. This is the only way the Silent Chests can be opened and they will drop gear items.
