How to obtain Gems in Diablo 4

There are many ways to obtain gems in Diablo 4, interacting with objects in the open world, defeating monsters, opening chests, and many more. It is fairly simple to collect gems and the higher you level up, the higher level of gems you will come across

Placing Gems into Gear

When it comes to placing gems into your gear, your gear must first have a gem socket, this will look like a circle over your gear. You can come across gear pieces with 1-2 gem slots available.

It is also possible to add a gem socket to a piece of gear with the Jeweler, ‘add socket‘, tab at the top. However it is not possible to add a gem socket to every gear piece in the game, some will have a limit to only 1 gem socket and some unique items may not allow you to add any gem sockets at all

Once you have a piece of gear that has a gem socket, you can simply just click and drag the gem into that gear piece.

Taking Gems out of Gear

Taking a gem out of a gear piece requires you to interact with a Jeweler NPC and go to the Unsocket tab at the top. Simply select the icon with the red background then it will allow you to take any gems out of any gear pieces.

It does require money to unsocket gems, but this way you can save all of the gems you have obtained and use them to upgrade into higher-level gems.

What are the Gems in Diablo 4?

There are currently seven types of gems in Diablo 4. However, there are also five tiers of each Gem.

The seven gems are Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Topaz, Sapphire, Diamond, and Skull. Each of these will give different buffs for each piece of gear type, armour, jewelry, and weapons.

Upgrading and Crafting Gems

When it comes to crafting higher tiers of the gems, it will increase the stat numbers on these gems when socketed into gear pieces. To upgrade the higher tier gems you first need to have 3 of the previous tier, it will also cost you additional gold.

Once you have enough gems, go to the Jeweler NPC in town, and it will open up a craft gems UI. Here you can see what Gems you can craft and what Gems you cannot craft. While you level up you will unlock the ability to make higher-tier Gems.

The five tiers go as followed:

Crude > Chipped > Gem Name > Flawless > Royal
