Can You Return To Walmart Without Receipt?

Return policies might seem straightforward in theory. Maybe the shirt you purchased doesn’t fit, a part of your new toaster was broken when you unpacked it, or your lamp won’t turn on.

The logical next step is to return the item to the store for a refund or exchange.

However, in practice, it’s not always so simple. Return policies can sometimes feel complex, and understanding one retailer’s process may help you figure out others.

Let’s take a closer look at how Walmart’s return policy works.

How does Walmart’s return policy work?

Walmart’s return policy is more detailed than you might expect after a glance at its website.

The basic policy gives a general idea of the process, but there are exceptions for different categories like electronics, car batteries, and televisions.

For most items, customers have 90 days from purchase or delivery to return or exchange the product unless otherwise specified.

Returns can be made through Walmart’s return center or by mail, depending on the item and how it was purchased.

Policies can also vary depending on whether the customer has a receipt. Most Walmart return centers operate during regular store hours, but checking with your local store for any specific variations is a good idea.

What items qualify for Walmart returns?

Generally, most items at Walmart are eligible for return, exchange, or refund, particularly if the customer has a receipt.

However, specific guidelines apply to certain categories such as marketplace items, products with batteries, and freight items.

Return eligibility can also vary depending on whether the product was shipped to a non-contiguous U.S. state or territory.

Most new, unopened items can be returned or exchanged within these timeframes:

    • 2 days: Major appliances
    • 14 days: Wireless phones
    • 30 days: AppleCare+, consumer electronics, PCs and components, vacuums, scooters, Verizon postpaid phones, protection plans, most marketplace items
    • 60 days: Contacts, glasses, hearing aids
    • 90 days: Walmart+ memberships, home equipment, unmounted tires, photos
    • 365 days: Perennials, shrubs, and trees

For items outside these timelines, returns may need to follow manufacturer guidelines.

Which items cannot be returned to Walmart?

Certain items are not eligible for returns at Walmart. These include:

    • Firearms, ammunition, airsoft guns, BB guns, and bows
    • Pepper spray
    • Gas-powered recreational vehicles
    • Used or mounted tires
    • Open or unopened trading cards
    • RV sewer equipment
    • Precious metals
    • Adult items and medical testing kits (pregnancy, COVID-19, etc.)
    • Prescription medications and devices
    • Diabetic supplies
    • Hygienic medical equipment

Additionally, gift cards and digital goods like video game download cards are non-returnable.

While Walmart does not have a specific video game return policy, information on redeeming codes or resolving issues with digital items may be available.
