Black Desert Tier 8 Courser Guide
This guide will help provide you all the information you need to know in obtaining your very own Tier 8 Courser with a few tips and tricks along the way.
Skills:
The most important Courser is a Tier 8 horse. To become a Courser you will need a specific list of skills, which are the following:
When looking at the horse’s skills in game, these courser skills will appear with a small gold horse icon.
Every tier of horse can become a courser but require more skills the higher the tier of horse.
Once a horse has all of the required skills to become a courser a similar gold horse icon will appear next to the horse.
When aiming for these skills, there is a method known for increasing the chance of skills your horse can obtain, this is called the Fore Chop Method.
The Fore Chop Method is when your horse achieves the skill ‘Fore Chop’ you then use a mount skill change coupon to reroll Fore Chop to another skill. The reason why we use Fore Chop is that the percentage chance of receiving this skill is one of the highest, if not the highest. You can also do this with the Hind Kick skill. So after you have rerolled the skill, level your horse up again and it will have the same percentage chance of learning that skill again.
The aim of this method is that you always reroll the Fore Chop skill to exchange it with one of the skills you need for your horse to become a courser.
How to Level your Tier 8:
Leveling your horse can be a pain, you can ride around the map on your horse to level, or create an auto path loop in a safe zone. This can be run while you are away from your game and passively level your horse.

The auto path method can also be used with wagons which will allow you to train multiple horses at a time. Setting up an auto path is pretty simple.
First position your horse/wagon for where you want the starting point to be.
Next, you will need to go to the map, right-click where you want to set your path, and then select the Set Loop button.
Now your horse or wagon will be auto-pathing a loop, there is a hotspot for doing this in Heidel. You will see many players running back and forth with this method to level up their training skill and horses.
Disadvantages of leveling with a wagon
- Horses receive less EXP each
- The riding Crop bonus does not affect wagon movement speed
- Wagons have a durability and will need to be replaced
- Any costume or gear effects that your horse may have are not applied while they are in a wagon
Training Buffs:
Just like all of the other life skills in black desert, there are buffs, scrolls, and other ways to make the leveling go quicker.
Character Gear
It’s always good to have Trainer’s Clothes while training your horses. Depending on which training clothes you choose, this can increase the movement speed and the mount exp gained. Since the clothes can be enhanced, this also means the higher the enhancement level, the more movement speed, and exp % gained increased. These training clothes can be obtained by exchanging golden seals, the market board, or crafting at a costume mil.
You can also buy the Venia Riding Attire from the Pearl Shop for 2,200 pearls, this gives a bonus of 20% mount EXP gained.
Another item you can equip are riding crops, which are sold by stable keepers or you can craft your own manos riding crop. These riding crops will increase your training mastery, max mount speed, and max auto-run speed. Riding crops are recommended as it increases your auto-run speed so goes hand in hand with the auto-path method for leveling.
Consumables
There are a few different consumables in the game that will increase your life exp gained and horse exp. These can be obtained by Cooking, alchemy, simple cooking and simple alchemy. You can even pick up a few from in-game events.
You can get a wide range of different consumables that give different amounts of xp for different amounts of time. Be aware on which positions you apply as some will give Horse EXP while others may only give Life EXP.
Life EXP will make your training level increase faster while Horse EXP will make your horse level up faster.
Other Items
Black desert has been known to have a cash shop. You have the freedom to buy EXP Scrolls, pets and mount gear to help boost your % increase while training your horse. One item is the Extra Life EXP Scroll which increases Life EXP by 50%, these can be bought with 50 pearls or 300 Loyalties.
There are a few different mount gearsets in the Pearl Store, having a completed set will give you moment speed bonuses.
While the pets in the Pearl Store can give Mount EXP Boosts or Life EXP boosts and the % increases depending on the tier of pet.
Leveling Skills:
When your horse learns a new skill, this skill may have a percentage next to it along with some text. The percentage means how much your horse has learned that skill.
For example, in this image, charge has been learned 56%. This means when you perform the skill Charge, by pressing Q while your horse has a Champron equipped, it has a 44% chance to fail. Now when a skill fails this will bring up a mini-game. Every time you complete the mini-game successfully the percentage will increase, when the percentage hits 100% you will no longer be required to play the mini-game and your horse will successfully perform the skill every time.
