Snapchat is a well-known app for chatting and sending disappearing messages. It also has a premium option called Snapchat+, which gives users early access to new features and special extras.
One of these features is the Friend Solar System, where your best friends are represented by planets.
While Snapchat works on a desktop, the Solar System feature can only be used on Android and iPhone.
Keep reading to understand how the planets work, how they are ranked, and what they represent. You’ll also learn to check your position in a friend’s Solar System.
What is the Snapchat Friend Solar System?
Snapchat has a feature called the Friend Solar System that works like a solar system model. You are the Sun, and the planets around you represent your closest friends on Snapchat.
Mercury, the planet closest to the Sun, stands for your number one friend, with whom you exchange the most snaps and messages.
The system has eight planets, each symbolizing a different friend based on how often you interact.
For example, Venus represents your second closest friend, and Neptune, the farthest planet, shows your eighth closest friend. It’s a fun way to see your top friends on Snapchat.
Snapchat Friend Solar System and Planet Sequence Explained
How planets are arranged in your Snapchat Solar System mirrors the real solar system. Here’s a breakdown of each Snapchat planet, listed from closest to farthest.
Mercury: This represents your number one best friend on Snapchat. If you often exchange messages and snaps with someone, they will appear as Mercury with a few red hearts in the Snapchat Solar System.
Venus: This is your second-closest friend on Snapchat and the second planet in your Solar System. Their bitmoji will appear on the planet surrounded by pink, yellow, and blue hearts. If you interact more often with this friend, Snapchat might move them to the Mercury planet.
Earth: This planet represents your third-best friend on Snapchat. The Moon, a natural satellite shown next to it, makes it stand out.
Mars: Your Fourth-Closest Buddy. The app marks Mars as your fourth friend, appearing as a red planet with stars and surrounded by blue and purple heart emojis.
Jupiter: Your Fifth-Best Buddy. Jupiter, your fifth closest friend, is shown as an orange planet with hints of red.
Saturn: Your Sixth-Closest Companion. Saturn is the sixth planet in your friend’s Solar System. It stands out with its golden ring.
Uranus: Your Seventh-Closest Friend. Snapchat removes the hearts, and fewer stars appear as you move to Uranus, a green planet, marking your seventh-closest connection.
Neptune: Your Eighth-Closest Friend. Being Neptune in your friend’s Solar System isn’t ideal. It’s the furthest planet and lacks any warm connection.
Your Snapchat Solar System is personal to your account. Neither your friends nor your bestie can view your Solar System.
Activating the Solar System Feature
When the Solar System feature was first introduced, it was automatically turned on. However, it caused concern for many teens, leading to anxiety.
Due to this feedback, Snapchat adjusted the feature, making it optional for Snapchat+ users. It keeps rankings private, so only you can see your own.
To enable the Solar System feature, follow these steps:
- Open your profile by tapping your icon.
- Go to the Snapchat+ section.
- Switch on the Solar System feature.
Discover Your Friendship Status in a Friend’s Solar System
You can’t view a friend’s entire Solar System or their list of best friends. However, you can see if you are part of their solar system on Snapchat.
Here’s how to find out:
- Open Snapchat and go to your friend’s profile.
- Click on the Best Friends or Friends badge to see your ranking in their Solar System.
For instance, if you see Saturn, it means you are their fifth-best friend on Snapchat. Remember, there is a small distinction between the Best Friends and Friends badges.
A Best Friends badge shows that you are part of someone else’s Solar System. When you earn this badge, that person is also included in your Solar System.
On the other hand, a Friends badge shows where you stand in your friend’s Solar System. However, this badge means your friend is not part of yours.
Snapchat+ Keeps Improving
Snapchat uses a planetary system to show how often you message your friends. However, this doesn’t reflect how close you are to them.
The Solar System feature is available only to Snapchat+ users with a current subscription. To get the best experience from your subscription, check out all the features Snapchat+ offers.
Additionally, Snapchat is available on desktop. This means you can chat with friends without being glued to your phone. Enhance your messaging experience by using Snapchat on a computer or laptop.
